The Green Monster IV is equipped with V12 aviation piston engines from the manufacturer Allison.
These were installed in the American aircraft Lockheed P-38 Lightning and North-American P-51 Mustang in World War 2. The two engines installed on the tractor each have 28 l displacement and four valves per cylinder. They are mounted one behind the other in steps (stair-step design) and each has different directions of rotation. This stabilizes the tractor during traction.
The biggest technical changes to the engines are the conversion to an electronically controlled injection and ignition system, which not only makes it possible to make major changes to the engine settings by computer between two pulls, but also to call up a large number of stored values and evaluate them. Methanol is used as fuel instead of aviation gasoline. Methanol burns at lower temperatures and ensures a lower thermal load on the engines, making an additional cooling system unnecessary.

The engines are supplied with air by superchargers. The supercharger of the front engine is a complete in-house development that pumps significantly more fresh air into the engine than the originally used supercharger. Power is transmitted via multi-plate centrifugal clutches that become friction-locked at around 1500 rpm. At full throttle, the engines rev up to 4500 rpm. A transmission with only one forward and one reverse gear is installed between the collective transmission, where the power of the two engines is combined, and the rear axle. The tractor was developed to start in the free class 3.5 tons. However, by removing the rear engine, it is also possible to start in the 2.5 t Free Class. The tires, with which the power is transferred to the ground, have the size 30.5-32 and are specially developed for the Tractor Pulling Sport. At full throttle the tires have a wheel speed of approx. 100 km/h.

In addition to many German championship titles, the greatest success of the Green Monster IV is winning the European Championship in the 3.5t Free Class in 2016.

In the winter of 1987/88, the first Green Fighter was built with two Allison V12 aircraft engines. This step became necessary after more and more tractors appeared in Europe in the mid-1980s whose power output was significantly higher than that of a single Allison engine. Just one year later, the tractor got a third engine. In order to remain competitive against the American V8 racing engines in the heavy-duty free classes of the time (with a starting weight of up to 5.4 tons), the largest displacement vehicle ever to leave the domestic workshop premiered in 1994: four V12 Allison engines on one tractor.

With the discontinuation of the heaviest class and the increased international entries in the Euro Cup in the 4.5 t class, the reduction to 3 engines took place after the 1997 season.
In 2002, an American Diekmann chassis found its way to Füchtorf as part of an international exchange. In return, a collective transmission for the merging of three engines went to the United States, so that two almost identical tractors started on both sides of the Atlantic.

In 2008, the chassis still in use today made its debut, but it has undergone a number of adjustments over the years due to the changing weight limits. In addition to the changes to the hardware, software was also introduced in 2010. Two of the three Allison engines have since been equipped with an electronic ignition and injection system, as is the case with both Green Monsters.
Since its premiere in 1988, the Green Fighter has won seven European Championship titles and three victories in the Euro Cup Series.

The sporting highlight was certainly 2018, when the switch to Mitas PowerPull tires resulted in both the European Championship title and the Euro Cup victory in a single season.

The Green Monster Stage V Mitas Edition was built in the winter of 2015 – 2016 with all the improvements developed over the years since the team was founded in 1978.
This tractor is already the fifth tractor that bears this name. As a power source, as in all previous Green Monster tractors, V12 flying piston engines from the manufacturer Allison are used. These were used in the American aircraft Lockheed P-38 Lightning and North-American P-51 Mustang during World War II.
The two engines installed on the tractor each have 28 l displacement and four valves per cylinder. They are mounted side by side and each has the same direction of rotation. Compared to the engines originally used in the Jagdbombers, those used on the Green Monster Stage V – Mitas Edition have been upgraded to an electronically controlled injection and ignition system. This system not only makes it possible to make major changes to the engine settings between two pulls by computer, but also to retrieve a variety of stored values and evaluate them.

Methanol is used as a fuel instead of aviation gasoline. Methanol burns at lower temperatures and ensures a lower thermal load on the engines, eliminating the need for an additional cooling system. The engines are supplied with air by compressors.
The supercharging of the engines is a complete in-house development, which pumps significantly more fresh air into the engines than the original superchargers used. Power is transmitted via multi-plate centrifugal clutches that become friction-locked at about 1500 rpm. At full throttle, the engines rev up to 4500 rpm. A transmission with only one forward and one reverse gear is installed between the collective transmission, where the power of the two engines is combined, and the rear axle.

The tractor was developed to start in the free class 2.5 tons. The tires, with which the power is transferred to the ground, have the size 30.5-32 and were developed by the company Mitas especially for the Tractor Pulling Sport. At full throttle, the tires have a wheel speed of about 100 km/h.

Besides the German championship title in 2018, the biggest success of the Green Monster Stage V – Mitas Edition is winning the European Championship in the 2.5 t Free Class in the same year.
